Building the Information Community
At the 9th Annual Best Practices Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, hear managers from major companies speak about their experiences growing the collaborative environment in which information-development thrives. We are pleased to announce a special speaker for our evening event-Ginny Redish, President of Redish & Associates. Her new book: Letting Go of the Words - Writing Web Content that Works, helps us prepare for the Web 2.0 world. On Tuesday evening, Ginny bring us her insights about our information customers. The topic — “Conversing with Your Web Site Visitors” The authors of our conference theme book tell us that people are no longer willing to be passive recipients of information. The web is both a cause and a venue for this attitude. To be successful with our web content, we must think of each use of our web sites as a conversation started by a busy site visitor.
More outstanding managers sharing their experiences:
Join information-development managers from BMC (Beth Thomerson and Melody Locke), Platform Computing (Brenda Horner), and Microsoft (Julie MacAller) as they recount their experiences implementing Agile development processes. Their teams both collaborate with product developers using agile methods and use agile methods strictly within the technical publications environment. They have learned that agile methods provide a superior way of building teamwork, leading to better product development. They also explain the pitfalls everyone is likely to encounter when agile methods are first introduced in a company. “Supporting Support” Jeff Kaminsky of Ceridian and Janet Attar of Cadence Design present information development from the perspective of the support organization. Jeff will introduce us to the best practices used to develop over a dozen customer service knowledge bases that are used in their call center’s primary support tool and call tracking system. Janet will share her experiences with the support organization. She is concentrating on how documentation impacts the support community.
