Iowa rarely makes national headlines with the exception of every four years, when the first U.S. presidential caucuses are held. This year, despite stiff competition from the Orange Bowl, record numbers of Iowans turned out to make their voices heard. As a precinct caucus worker, I was energized by the conversations between my friends, neighbors, and colleagues about the issues important to them.

As a candidate for Director-at-Large, I was shocked to learn that less than 20% of our membership vote in the annual election. This means approximately 80% are not voting to help determine the direction and vision of this organization. STC faces a number of challenges:

* declining membership
* delivering value to our members
* identifying our Body of Knowledge
* distinguishing our profession to demonstrate our value in the workplace, and
* improving our business model
